Overview

If your organisation is investing in digital experiences but experiencing common problems like lack of consistency, efficiency and governance, design systems can help. Design systems bridge the gap between design and development, driving significant design and delivery efficiencies. Design systems are a must to support your organisation’s growing design and development capability.

Approach

Purple Shirt’s approach to design systems is bespoke: there’s no ‘one size fits all’ approach. That’s because your organisation’s unique culture, maturity, and tooling, design and development capability all impact on how a design system can be successfully implemented and maintained.

By focusing on building an understanding of your organisation’s design maturity, we set a solid foundation for your design system strategy. This strategy outlines the governance, structure, tooling, and contribution model that your organisation’s design function will adhere to.

We blend bespoke system design with best practice strategy, governance and contribution models and our own design system philosophy. This has been developed through years of experience creating and working within design systems in complex organisations across diverse industries.

Capabilities

Whether you’re just beginning your design systems journey or are already working within a mature design system environment, we’ve got the capabilities to help. Our extensive experience, both from the ground up and as a contributor to existing design systems, includes design system strategy, governance, design, and build.

Experience

  • Developed the University of Canterbury’s design system strategy to support significant investment in new digital products while ensuring that experiences are consistent and coherent across the entirety of UC’s digital ecosystem
  • Defined the strategy for Serko’s design system, including front-end engineering support for the implementation of the design system
  • Contributed to Air New Zealand’s design system to support the creation of new reusable components across web, mobile and inflight entertainment
  • Led the maturation of Xero’s mobile design system balancing the creation of bespoke components against the use of native controls.
