Q: Gaven, tell us a bit about your background.
I’ve spent over 20 years in tech, working across infrastructure, cybersecurity, and software development. I’ve had the chance to deliver strategic outcomes for big global firms, nimble startups, and government clients alike. These days, I’m CIO at Elemental Concept, and CTO at Purple Shirt, where I help teams design, build, and deploy systems that actually solve problems in the real world.
Q: What’s your approach to leadership in technology?
Hands-on and practical. I thrive when things are still a bit ambiguous, when the brief isn’t quite nailed down yet. That’s when I roll up my sleeves and help bring clarity through deep technical thinking, fast iteration, and strategic focus. I believe good tech leadership is about turning complexity into scalable, elegant solutions that just work.
Q: Your experience spans a lot of different areas. What are some career highlights?
I’ve worn a few hats! I had senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank, taught cybersecurity at PSB Academy, and spent years as a freelance consultant and entrepreneur. I’ve led cloud migrations, built high-performing tech teams, and mentored upcoming cyber professionals. Whether it’s building distributed platforms or teaching in a classroom, I’m always drawn to the impact technology can make when it’s done well.
Q: What excites you most about your role at Elemental Concept?
Honestly, the people. We’ve got such a sharp, diverse team, and now, with Purple Shirt joining us, there’s even more energy and capability in the mix. I’m especially excited about how we can bring our software and AI chops to more markets and client challenges. We’ve got the chance to do some really meaningful, high-impact work together.
Q: What do you get up to when you’re not leading tech teams?
If there’s water nearby, I’m probably in it! I’m a big fan of e-foiling and surfing, anything that gives me an excuse to jump in the ocean.
