Saving time and reducing the margin for error for Vivent Biosignals

Replacing laptops and cables with mobile first connectivity – making field sensor set-up faster and easier for Vivent Biosignals' farm admins.

Background

Vivent Biosignals’ agritech platform uses bio-sensors to help farmers monitor plant health in real time, but setting up those sensors in the field was no small task. Until recently, farm admins had to carry laptops and cables into the field to connect and activate devices. It was clunky, slow, and not ideal for real-world conditions.

Opportunity

Vivent Biosignals needed a more straightforward, faster way for users to connect sensors, manage devices, and run trials – all from the field.

Approach

Working closely with the Vivent Biosignals team, we built a cross-platform suite of apps designed to streamline sensor management:

  • A mobile app (for iOS and Android) that uses Bluetooth to connect and activate plant sensors in the field –no cables, no laptops.
  • A desktop application to help farm admins group sensors, manage devices, and run product trials (like testing fertilisers across specific zones).

Vivent Biosignals provided a design prototype and had a clear vision for functionality but gave us the freedom to “do what we think is right” on the front-end implementation. We used Ionic to deliver a responsive, consistent experience across platforms.

Outcomes

With mobile-first connectivity, field setup is now simple and fast. Admins can activate devices on the spot, saving time and reducing the margin for error. The desktop app gives teams a clear view of what’s happening across trials, with the flexibility to adapt as needs evolve. The platform was recently launched and is now in internal testing, with a second release planned later in the year, featuring additional features, user feedback, and a deeper focus on UX.
